Reviews from the Road: St. Louis, MO - Schlafly...
I had the opportunity to play at a local brewery in St. Louis, MO with my friend Eric Hall. It was not Anheuser-Busch. The brewery is Schlafly, and they have a good selection of brews. I tried the Pale Ale and the Christmas Ale. The pale ale had a good, rich hoppy taste, much better than the other pale ales I’ve come across on this trip. Although it’s well past Christmas, the Christmas Ale was...

The Andygator
This was the first time I have heard of a helles doppelbock, as well as drinking one. Going in blindly can be risky sometimes, but tonight it ended up paying off. Much to my surprise, this one had a fruity aroma when I first opened it. Further research revealed that it tastes like it smells, but much better. This had a very complex taste: the fruit was most obvious (apple, grapefruit?), it had...
Reviews from the Road: Kansas City, MO - Boulevard...
If Kansas City, MO-based brewery Boulevard Brewing Company represents the metaphorical road of beer, then its Pale Ale is somewhere in the median. The bite just wasn’t there, even as I was definitely feeling the bite of winter my whole...
Reviews From The Road: Tulsa, OK - Choc 1919
I came across this unique beer, made in Krebs, OK while playing in Tulsa. Choc 1919 is a wheat ale brewed in small batches, and also set to ferment twice in the bottle. The yeast left in the bottle from this process gives the beer a cloudy color. This beer is full bodied and satisfying, even getting the Hannah Jones seal of approval. While not something I would normally choose, Choc is a good...

Orange Blossom Pilsner I & II
Double review time! Another bunch of brews from the crew at Thomas Creek that I didn’t expect running into. It’s a little out of season, but still an interesting find nonetheless. Both the original and the squared were purchased to compare one after another.
The OBP is light golden pilsner with honey and a little citrus in the mix. All things considered, I don’t have much to...
